Because of the high loss of radios on our trips we cannot lend them for free.
We can however hire you a radio for the week at a modest charge or sell you a radio when you arrive. Email for further details.
We take the use of radios very seriously on all our trips, as do any good operator of overseas flying holidays.
2M radios are the norm in paragliding, although not strictly legal. However, thanks to the good work of a few BHPA officers the Radio Agency have agreed to the following frequencies being used. They are obtainable from most commercial 2m radios, however you may need to ''open up' the frequency range (see below).
FREQUENCIES
We tend to use these frequencies wherever possible on our trips HOWEVER, it should be remembered that they have only been allowed for the UK, although it is likely they are clear in surrounding areas of Europe.
Now, if your Radio cannot transmit on the above frequencies then chances are it can be modified. Go to the following website to obtain details of mods etc that are available;
Whilst on the trip please adhere to the following;
Imagine, you are flying with some others in the group XC. You miss the next thermal, but they don't. You inevitably land but don't radio up, preferring instead to lay down, relax and enjoy the sun....
Now imagine it from their perspective... you leave the group, land, and then the wing stays as it fell..... is he ok... no radio message... we'd best land too and check on them....
